Mission Statement

Abigail Barraza Foundation is dedicated to increasing local and national awareness; it is also our mission to raise awareness about breast cancer in the Hispanic communities.

Educating Latinas

Educating Latinas about the importance of breast cancer is a major obstacle. Lack of insurance prevents many Latinas from getting information about breast cancer and screening. There are also few bilingual education programs that help the Hispanic community. Latinas need to be educated but there are no resources being provided.

"It is better to die on your feet: than to live life on your knees."

- Emiliano Zapata

The Person

"Abby" Barraza was a woman who changed the lives of all who knew her. The impact she had on everyone was always positive. She loved her family, friends and job very much. She battled with breast cancer for many years, always with a smile that would light up the room, courage that I still have trouble imagining. Abby was a fighter and never quit, she was a leader at her job and she took her job seriously. As a customer you would never known she was in pain battling a disease that was relentless. You would always see her smile and she would always ask what she could do for you. That was her persona, and what she loved the most was helping others. That is who we strive to be. Because of her example, she inspired us to create this foundation and give back to the community that Abby loved and supported. By her example we dedicate our lives to her memory and what she loved to do.

I know Abby put her heart and soul into healing her body. Her courage was that of warrior. Her spirit defines the famous quote by Zapata. Even with her loss, she has won the war... for if our efforts and teachings reach just 1 Latina and prevents her from being a statistic, "Abby" has prevailed. Her legacy continues with our commitment to bring awareness and education about this disease within our Latina community.
