Breast cancer is a disease that affects hundreds of thousands of women but particularly Latinas. We have the lowest rate among all women who contract breast cancer, but we are the first to die from this disease due to lack of knowledge about this disease, no preventative check-ups due to lack of medical coverage and cultural beliefs. Our Mission is to involve, educate and interact with any Hermana who may feel that she is not able to communicate with doctors or health clinic officials due to lack of insurance or a language barrier.
In Los Angeles, we are a majority but we still have a serious need to have brochures about preventive measures and facts on breast cancer made in Spanish. We need to let our Tia’s , Madre’s and Abuelita’s know the facts before our cultural beliefs and myths are the cause of our deaths.
Abigail Barraza Foundation is Organizing a hat and Book drive for Little Yulissa Salgado, She has just underwent treatment for her leukemia, she currently has lost all her hair, she loves to wear different hats and loves to read books, for the next 2 weeks we are collecting donations of hats and books for Yulissa, we will then put them in a huge Easter Basket and take to her school to surprise her!
If it is within your means to donate.
